Amazon India fee changes, dated

Amazon India changed seller fees three times in 2026 and scattered the detail across forum announcements. Here it is in order, with the part the headlines left out.

Three changes: 7 April 2025 cut referral fees and raised the self-ship closing fee from INR 7 to INR 45; 16 March 2026 extended zero referral fees to INR 1,000 across 1,800+ categories and cut that closing fee back to INR 20; 7 September 2026 raised closing fees again by INR 1 under INR 500 and INR 3 above. Every figure is before 18% GST.

TL;DR
  • 7 Apr 2025, billed as the biggest cut ever, also took the self-ship closing fee from INR 7 to INR 45 under INR 300.
  • 16 Mar 2026 extended zero referral fees to INR 1,000 across 1,800+ categories and cut that fee back to INR 20.
  • 7 Sep 2026 raised closing fees again, by INR 1 up to INR 500 and INR 3 above it, across FC, Easy Ship and Seller Flex.
  • Zero referral fee under INR 1,000 is category-dependent, not universal, despite how the headline reads.
  • Amazon's own category fee calculator currently links to a third-party prototype domain that renders the word PRIVATE.

Amazon announced the April 2025 change as its biggest seller fee reduction in India: zero referral fees under INR 300 across more than 135 sub-categories, weight handling down by up to INR 17 for products under 1 kg,.

2025: the cut that was also a rise

Amazon announced the April 2025 change as its biggest seller fee reduction in India: zero referral fees under INR 300 across more than 135 sub-categories, weight handling down by up to INR 17 for products under 1 kg, and Easy Ship national rates starting at INR 65 against INR 77 previously.

On Amazon's own announcement thread, Indian sellers immediately reported the opposite on self-ship. One wrote that closing fees for self ship had increased to INR 45 from INR 7 for units priced below INR 300, another called it a 540% hike, and a third pointed out that self ship is what sellers use where Easy Ship is unavailable, which is precisely the group least able to absorb it.

2026: the correction, and then the rise again

On 16 March 2026 Amazon extended zero referral fees to products priced up to INR 1,000 across more than 1,800 categories, cut self-ship closing fees under INR 300 from INR 45 back to INR 20 and from INR 35 to INR 26 in the INR 300 to 500 band, and described a total INR 15 reduction on Easy Ship made up of INR 10 off weight handling and INR 5 off closing fees.

Read against 2025, the 2026 cut partly reverses the 2025 increase sellers complained about. That arc is visible only if you read both announcements, which is why nobody has written it down.

Then on 7 September 2026, quoted from Amazon's live pricing page: due to increases in fuel and logistics costs, closing fees for sellers in India increase by INR 1 for products priced up to INR 500 and by INR 3 above that, across the FC, Easy Ship and Seller Flex channels.

What the headline gets wrong, and where the numbers hide

Zero referral fees under INR 1,000 is not universal. The fee schedule shows category bands that vary, including categories reading 6.00% for item price up to 1,000 and others banded at 0.00% up to 250 then 2.00% above it. Mobiles and laptops are flat-rate with no zero band at all. So the single most repeated fact about Amazon India fees is category-dependent.

The authoritative per-category table is also the hardest document on the site to reach: disallowed in Amazon's robots.txt, absent from its sitemap, and not linked from the fees page. The weight handling numbers inside it exist only as un-alt-texted images.

And the Category Level Revenue Calculator on Amazon India's own pricing page links to a third-party prototype domain which renders only the word PRIVATE. Amazon's official fee calculator is, right now, broken and pointing off-domain.

Questions sellers ask

Closing fees rose by INR 1 for products priced up to INR 500 and by INR 3 for products above INR 500, across the FC, Easy Ship and Seller Flex channels. Amazon attributed it to increases in fuel and logistics costs. That figure, like every Amazon fee, is quoted before the 18% GST that is applied on top.

Not universally, despite how the March 2026 announcement reads. The fee schedule shows category bands that vary: some categories read 6.00% for item price up to 1,000, others are banded at 0.00% up to 250 and 2.00% above, and mobiles and laptops are flat-rate with no zero band. Check your own category rather than the headline.

Because the April 2025 change, announced as a fee cut, raised the self-ship closing fee under INR 300 from INR 7 to INR 45, which sellers on Amazon's own thread called a 540% hike. The March 2026 change cut it back to INR 20. Reading either announcement alone gives you half the story.

The Category Level Revenue Calculator linked from Amazon India's pricing page currently points at a third-party prototype domain that renders only the word PRIVATE. The ASIN-level FBA calculator is behind the Seller Central login, so a prospective seller cannot check any fee before signing up. Work from your own settlement report instead.

No. Amazon's fees page states plainly that all fee types are displayed excluding Goods and Services Tax and that 18% GST is applied to all fees displayed. So a INR 20 closing fee is INR 23.60. The settlement report does not split that GST into IGST, CGST and SGST per fee line either, which is the allocation you have to do yourself.
